Chris - Senior Options Assessor
Before joining TSYS in Jan 2001, I had pursued a career in Sales, then went onto complete an MSc in E-Commerce. Before joining TSYS, I'd had no experience of working in the Financial Services Industry, but when I saw their advert in the Yorkshire Post and after completing some research into the company, I decided this was a company you could go a long way in.
Due to the fact I'd had no experience in the industry, I was somewhat surprised to be offered a job by TSYS, however not in the position I'd originally applied for. The position in question was on their Helpdesk. I did feel over-qualified for the position but I made the decision to accept the job as I could see a lot of scope for growth within the company.
In retrospect, I was glad to 'start at the bottom' as this enabled me time to:
- Get used to the company
- Get used to the work ethic
- Develop the skills necessary to progress within the company
After working on the helpdesk for 10 months, I was promoted to Issues Analyst Level 2. This was a natural transition as my main responsibilities on the helpdesk were to load trouble tickets and to pass them onto the relevant areas.
Upon attaining this promotion, I was sent off to the US for 3 weeks of intensive training, which was a real eye-opener as the Campus in Columbus is very impressive. During my time as an Issue Analyst, I was responsible for a number of areas as my experience grew - ranging from Collections to Reissue, Card Management and Chip & PIN. The main focus of my day was to solve any issues with the system in addition to writing projects. During this time I also took the opportunity of deputising for my Team Leader (there are opportunities if you want to make the sacrifices). The working day of an Issue Analyst can be stressful - clients are always demanding! - sometimes seeming a bit too much. Saying that, there is such a great team ethic here, along with some large personalities, that you are more than able to cope.
My hard work as an Issue Analyst was rewarded with a promotion into the Change Management team where I am currently an OMR Assessor Level 3. Here I am responsible for assessing and consulting clients on the changes they make to the system. Recently, I have been elected to do the course in Visa Bank Card Management which goes to prove that TSYS will invest in you.
Overall TSYS is a good place to be work, they are flexible and everyone is really friendly. Of course every company has its bad side, the difference with TSYS is that they do try to rectify that. Back to top
